Getting braces for you or your child is a big decision. There are many orthodontic options to choose from, but it can be difficult to know which one will work best for your situation. Chamblee Orthodontics would like to discuss the various types of braces, as well as their benefits and drawbacks, so that you can make an informed decision about what’s right for your family.
Traditional braces are the most common type of orthodontic treatment and come in a variety of styles, including metal braces, ceramic braces, & clear aligners. Metal braces are made from stainless steel and are the most durable option. They’re also the least expensive. Ceramic braces are made from translucent material that blends in with teeth. There are also clear aligners such as Invisalign that provide a more discreet method of straightening teeth. Invisalign are clear-colored plastic aligners that gradually shift teeth into proper position. They’re removable for eating, brushing, and flossing but must be worn at least 20 hours a day.
Braces can also be used to close gaps between teeth or correct jaw problems when they cause difficulties with speech, chewing, swallowing, as well as improving overall appearance. Whatever the reason that you and your child have decided that braces are the best treatment, there are many orthodontic options available to you.
